Hey neighbor!

Happy Thursday — we're almost to the weekend!

TL;DR: Today I'm taking you on a little tour of some local restaurants in cities we haven't featured yet, plus a couple of family-friendly events, a coffee shop that's doing good in the world, and a county resource that might be exactly what someone you know needs right now.

Let's get into it.

🍽️ 3 LOCAL RESTAURANTS TO TRY

I wanted to highlight a few spots in cities we haven't talked about yet. All three are locally owned, chef-driven, and worth putting on your radar.

1. Mojitos Cuban Bistro — Peachtree Corners

📍 5161 Peachtree Parkway, Peachtree Corners Open for lunch & dinner daily 🍽️ Cuban & Latin cuisine

If you haven't been to Mojitos yet, you're missing out. This locally owned spot serves up Cuban classics — think ropa vieja, Cuban sandwiches, tostones, and plantains — in a vibrant, colorful space. They've got happy hour specials on weekdays and live music on weekends, which makes it perfect for date night or a fun dinner with friends. The mojitos are (obviously) a must.

2. Local on North — Duluth

📍 3085 Main Street #530, Duluth (in Parsons Alley) Mon-Thu 11:30am-9pm | Fri-Sat 11:30am-10pm | Sun 11am-9pm 🍽️ Modern American

Tucked into downtown Duluth's Parsons Alley, Local on North is a family-owned gem serving modern American food with a Georgia twist. Their menu features locally inspired dishes — the fried green tomatoes are legendary, the pork chop is massive, and the chicken Francaise gets rave reviews. They also have a great selection of Georgia craft beers and creative cocktails. Small restaurant, big flavors.

3. 1910 Public House — Lilburn

📍 107 Main Street NW, Lilburn (Old Town) Mon-Tue 11:30am-9pm | Wed-Thu 11:30am-10pm | Fri-Sat 11am-10pm | Sun 11am-9pm 🍽️ Farm-to-table Southern

This is Lilburn's only farm-to-table restaurant — and it's been a local favorite for years. The menu changes seasonally based on what's fresh and local. They roast their own coffee beans, bake everything from scratch, and have 28 craft beers on tap (mostly local). Try the pimento cheese fritters, the shrimp and grits, or whatever the daily special is. It's the kind of place that makes you proud to live in Gwinnett.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 2 FAMILY EVENTS THIS WEEKEND

1. FREE Kids Club: Beaded Rainbow Keychain — Michaels

📍 Multiple Gwinnett locations (Lawrenceville, Duluth, Snellville, etc.) 🗓️ Sunday, January 11 💰 FREE

Michaels is hosting a free kids craft event where kids can make a colorful beaded rainbow keychain. It's a fun, hands-on activity and a great way to get the kiddos creating. All supplies are free — just show up! (Pro tip: call ahead to confirm supplies are available at your location.)

2. Sunday Family Day — Plaza Las Americas

📍 733 Pleasant Hill Rd, Lilburn 🗓️ Every Sunday 💰 FREE

Plaza Las Americas hosts Sunday Family Day every week with activities for kids, live entertainment, and a great chance to explore the shops and food vendors. It's a fun, multicultural experience the whole family can enjoy — and it's free.

☕ COFFEE SPOTLIGHT: LAND OF A THOUSAND HILLS — DULUTH

📍 3176 Main Street #200, Duluth Mon-Thu 7:30am-8pm | Fri 7:30am-9:30pm | Sat 8am-9:30pm | Sun 9am-6pm

Here's a coffee shop with a mission: "Drink Coffee. Do Good."

Land of a Thousand Hills sources specialty coffee directly from farmers in Rwanda — and every cup supports living wages, education, healthcare, and clean water in those farming communities. Their Duluth location (connected to a Thrive coworking space) serves expertly brewed lattes, pour-overs, gelato, and fresh pastries in a warm, inviting space.

Try the Cinna-Honey Latte (cinnamon + honey = perfection) or grab a bag of their Rwandan beans to take home. It's good coffee that does good.

💡 RESOURCE: FREE MOBILE FOOD DISTRIBUTIONS

Did you know Gwinnett County hosts free food distribution events throughout the year?

These drive-thru events provide fresh produce and shelf-stable foods to any resident who needs them — no ID required. Just pull up, stay in your car, and volunteers will load the food for you.

Upcoming 2026 dates:

  • January 13 — Rhodes Jordan Park, 100 E. Crogan St, Lawrenceville

  • January 27 — Best Friend Park, 6224 Jimmy Carter Blvd, Norcross

  • February 10 — Lenora Park, 4515 Lenora Church Rd, Snellville

  • February 24 — Bryson Park, 5075 Lawrenceville Hwy, Lilburn

All events start at 3:00pm and continue while supplies last.

Since 2020, Gwinnett has distributed 2.8 million pounds of food to over 430,000 residents. If you or someone you know could use the help — or if you want to volunteer — this is an incredible resource.
