This Weekend
in Gwinnett.

Hey Neighbor,

Last night my wife and I loaded up all four boys and drove into downtown Lawrenceville — no big plan, just a hunch that it'd be a good night to be out. It was…for about 45 minutes at least😅.

We squeezed in with half the county to watch the USA World Cup match on the big screens, and you could feel the whole square holding its breath together on every shot. Didn’t last long with our little ones and the heat of the day.

Our oldest son and some fiends stuck around for the Prelude to the 4th fireworks, and he told me it was incredible! Friends, this is the good stuff. Right here. This weekend it only gets bigger — so let's get you out the door.

Like Andy Bernard, AKA Nard Dog from The Office said, "I wish there was a way to know you are in the good old days before you've actually left them."

And honestly, I feel like I just experienced one of hose days.

Gus' Pick of the Week: Phoenix Roasters (Duluth)

Okay, I've been sitting on this one. If you want a coffee that actually means something, go find Phoenix Roasters on Old Peachtree Road in Duluth. It's a roastery, café, and drive-thru — but the real story is the mission behind it: they call it "Coffee That Matters," using direct-trade beans to create dignified work for people in hard places around the world. So your morning cup is quietly doing good on the other side of the planet.

The coffee holds up too — this is roasted-in-house, know-your-beans coffee, not a machine-and-a-shrug operation. Perfect for the friend who's tired of the same drive-thru chain and wants something with a soul.

What to order: a pour-over of whatever single-origin they're featuring, and ask the barista the story behind it — they love telling it.

🇺🇸 Good News from the County

While we're all firing up grills, the rest of the planet is looking at our backyard. Gwinnett is one of the metro hubs for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and Explore Gwinnett has been running official watch parties so neighbors can catch matches together — exactly the energy I felt downtown last night.

It's a wild thing to stand in a Lawrenceville square packed with flags from a dozen countries and realize the whole world is, for a few weeks, paying attention to home. Proud of how our county's showing up on the big stage. See the watch parties »

📌 Worth Knowing This Week

  • Free doughnut on the 4th: Wear red, white & blue into any Krispy Kreme on Saturday, July 4, and score a free Original Glazed. Easy tradition, zero dollars.

  • Date-night, locked in: If the fireworks are the kids' night, carve out one for you two. Kurt's Euro Bistro in Duluth has been doing intimate, first-class European dining for 35+ years — think hand-carved steaks and a proper wine list in a small, cozy room. For something more modern, H&W Steakhouse in Peachtree Corners does USDA Prime steaks and craft cocktails in a slick 1940s-inspired space. Reserve ahead for the holiday weekend.

  • Farmers market runs on the 4th: The Suwanee Farmers Market is open 8 AM–12 PM Saturday — a calm, cool start before the crowds.

  • Lilburn Farmers Market on friday’s: Opens at 4 PM Click Here for Details

  • Traffic reality check: For the big shows (Stone Mountain especially), get there early. Lots close when they're full, ticket or not. Pack water, chairs, and patience.

Before You Go

Two hundred fifty years ago a handful of people signed their names to a risky idea about freedom, and somehow it's grown into a country where a dad and his four boys can stand in a small-town square and watch the sky catch fire with strangers who feel like neighbors. I don't take that for granted.

This weekend, in between the burgers and the booms, maybe steal a quiet second to be thankful — for this country, for this county, and for the people you get to stand next to while it all lights up.

Happy Fourth, neighbor. Go make some noise. 🎆
